Cut if necessary, but
not too close

Cover celery with straw
or sacking to protect from frost.
Lift and use parsnips
Check clamps, and throw out any diseased or rotting vegetables
Dig where necessary and check drainage.
Fruit
Continue checking stored
fruit.
Tar oil winter wash or DNOC wash fruit trees not done in November.
Spray with winter wash all established fruit trees.
Finish pruning and new planting.
Thin spurs of old apples and pears.
Shrubs
Plant trees and shrubs
whenever the weather is mild and dry.
Winter pruning and removal of dead or badly placed wood should be
completed.
Flowers
Protect delphinium, lupin etc., against
slugs using bait.
Indoors
Reduce watering and keep
moist plants away from frost but in as much light as possible.
Make up loam and compost for spring use.
General
Have maintenance done on
garden tools and machinery.
Clean out stores and tool shed.
